Judd Cornell Season 2005-06

Senior (2005-06)
As the only senior, Coach Bill Spangler was able to depend on Judd Cornell for his consistency in his final season. A regular in the Nebraska lineup since the start of his Nebraska career, Cornell’s sound play was earmarked by his dependability in hitting on greens in regulation, where he led the team. In the fall, Cornell posted 13 rounds under 75 en route to a second-place spot in the Husker lineup with a 73.44 season stroke average through six tournaments. Cornell’s fall performance reinforced his reliable game for the Huskers three top-25 finishes, including a third-place finish at the Fairway Club Invitational in the fall. Cornell’s best scores of 213 came in the Fairway Club Invitational and the Sam Hall Invitational, where he placed 13th. He placed in the top 30 twice more and fired his low round of 68 at the Xavier Invitational. He shot his season-low round of 68 at both the Xavier Invitational in the fall and the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in the spring. Cornell’s spring season included five top-25 finishes, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Branson Creek Invitational. He capped his Nebraska career with a strong season and a 73.46 stroke average through 39 rounds, bringing his final career stroke average down to 74.95.

Junior (2004-05) 
Cornell displayed consistency in all 12 of the Huskers’ tournaments and compiled a 73.91 stroke average over 35 rounds. Cornell had a pair of top-five finishes, earning runner-up honors at Nebraska’s Fairway Club Invitational to open the season, before finishing fourth at the Xavier Invitational. Cornell finished with an eight-under par 208 total at the Xavier Invitational, including a career-best round of 66 in the final round. Cornell posted scores of 75 or lower in 13 of 18 fall rounds, including six rounds under par. In the spring, he earned three top-20 finishes and tied for 25th at the Big 12 Championships. Cornell was Nebraska’s top performer at five of the 12 tournaments NU participated in last season.

Sophomore (2003-04)
Cornell was in the lineup for all 13 of Nebraska’s tournaments and finished the season with a 75.64 stroke average, nearly 1 1/2 strokes better than his freshman season. Cornell struggled early in the fall, but rallied late in the fall season and throughout the spring campaign. He finished the year with seven top-25 finishes, including a season-best tie for seventh-place at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, when he closed the tournament with a season-best round of 69 and posted a three-round total of 214, his lowest total of 2003-04. Cornell closed the year with a tie for 20th place at the Big 12 Championships, 31 spots higher than his finish as a freshman. Cornell finished the year with 20 rounds of 75 or lower.

Freshman (2002-03)
Cornell competed in all but two of NU’s tournaments as a true freshman, and put together an impressive spring season. He finished 2002-03 with a 77.06 stroke average, but lowered his average to just over 76.0 during 21 spring rounds. Cornell averaged 78.83 strokes in the fall with his best finishing coming in a 28th-place finish at the Colbert Intercollegiate. He finished in the top 40 in six of NU’s seven spring tournaments, including a pair of top-10 showings late in the season. He had a 221 total at the Branson Creek Invitational for a season-best fifth-place finish. A week later, Cornell tied for eighth place at the Arkansas State Indian Classic on the strength of a season-low 218 total. Cornell concluded his freshman season with a tie for 51st at the Big 12 Championships (242). He carded 11 rounds of 75 or lower, including 10 during the spring.

Before Nebraska
Cornell played for Millard West under coach Rick Baker, along with current Husker teammate Brady Schnell. Cornell recorded seven wins and a district championship during his prep career. In addition to all-state honors, Judd was named honorary captain for the all-metro and all-division teams. Cornell finished sixth at the Nebraska Amateur in 2002 and was third in the Nebraska Junior Amateur in the same summer. He represented Nebraska in the Nebraska-Kansas Junior Cup Matches in 2000 and 2002.

Personal
Judd is the son of Mike and Patti Cornell. His father is a teaching professional at Omaha’s Oak Hills Country Club. Judd was born on Sept. 5, 1983, and is majoring in advertising. He has two sisters, Katy (19) and Maggie (17).
