Ramel Lloyd Jr. redshirted in his first season at Nebraska as he ran the scout team in practice and adjusted to the rigors of Division I basketball. Lloyd took advantage of the redshirt year, making significant strides in many facets of his game while going against the starters every day in practice.
BEFORE NEBRASKA
Lloyd Jr. comes to Nebraska from national power Sierra Canyon High School, where he faced a national schedule as a senior. A top-100 recruit in the 247Sports Composite, Lloyd was a four-star recruit by ESPN and ranked No. 88 nationally by ESPN in the class of 2022. He was ranked the No. 7 prospect in California by ESPN and a top-150 recruit by Rivals and On3. Lloyd helped a star-studded Sierra Canyon roster to a 26-5 record in 2021-22, a CIF State Open Division semifinals appearance and a No. 17 ranking in the final USA TODAY Super 25 poll.
The Sierra Canyon roster featured a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans and five players who are playing Division I basketball in 2022-23. As a senior, Lloyd averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 27 contests. He was voted the MVP of the 'Iolani Tournament, posting three straight 20-point games to lead SCHS to a tournament title. He also earned a spot on the BassPro Invitational All-Tournament team as the team earned runner-up honors.
As a junior, Lloyd averaged 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game as Sierra Canyon went 15-2 and lost in the Southern Section Open Division Finals. Lloyd spent his sophomore season at Taft High School, averaging 21.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 2019-20 while winning West Valley League Co-MVP honors. Lloyd selected Nebraska over Arkansas, Oregon, Arizona State and Georgetown.
PERSONAL
The son of Taba and Ramel Lloyd Sr., Ramel Lloyd Jr. was born on Oct. 21, 2003, in Long Beach, Calif. He has two older sisters (Bianca and Taylor). Ramel Jr. is majoring in business administration at Nebraska. His father, Ramel Lloyd Sr., was a Parade All-American who played college basketball at Syracuse before finishing his career at Long Beach State. He earned first-team All-Big West honors in 2001 when he averaged a conference best 19.4 ppg before playing professionally for a decade.
