2020-21 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN)
Bret Porter played in seven games for the Huskers as a redshirt freshman, totaling 10 minutes of action.  He grabbed his first career rebound in three minutes against McNeese State and had a block against North Dakota State. Porter, who walked to the Husker program appeared in five Big Ten games and recorded an assist at No. 5 Iowa.

2019-20 (REDSHIRT)
Porter redshirted during the 2019-20 season, working extensively with the Husker scout team in practice. He was on the Huskers' trip to Italy, playing in three of the four games and had a basket in the opener. 

BEFORE NEBRASKA
Porter played for Coach Tim Cannon at Millard North High School, totaling 701 points, 317 rebounds and 177 assists during his high school career. A three-year starter, Porter showed toughness as a senior, returning from a torn ACL in the summer of 2018 to average 6.2 points on 52 percent shooting and 4.4 rebounds per game in 21 games. His effort helped Millard North to a 16-8 record and a 
Class A district finals appearance. Porter’s best game as a senior was a 17-point, 10-rebound effort against Omaha North.

He was a key cog for the Mustangs during his junior campaign, starting all 24 games and averaging 13.5 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game. He totaled five double-doubles as a junior, highlighted by a career-high 29-point, 10-carom outburst against Papillion-La Vista South. Porter moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore, averaging 10.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Mustangs.

Porter played his AAU ball with the Omaha Sports Academy under Andy King, as he teamed with fellow Husker Jace Piatkowski in helping the program to a trio of top-25 national finishes. 

PERSONAL
Bret is the son of Budge and Diane Porter and was born on Sept. 10, 2000, in Omaha. He has an older sister (Claire) and a twin sister (Brooke). A social science education major at Nebraska, Bret claimed Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2021. He is also a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. Bret is Nebraska’s first four-generation athlete, as his father (Budge, 1975) grandfather (Mort, 1943, 1946-47) and great grandfather (Grove, 1913-15) all played football for the Cornhuskers.
