Brady Heiman (pronounced hi-men) comes to Nebraska after a standout career at Platteview High School outside Omaha. When Heiman signed his Letter-of-Intent in November of 2017, he became the Huskers' first in-state high school recruit since 2001. Heiman brings an intriguing skill set to the Huskers, as the 6-foot-11 forward has excellent shooting touch out to 3-point range and has the instincts to eventually be an outstanding shot blocker and rebounder. Heiman has already added 15 pounds since arriving on campus in June, and his playing time will depend on adding strength to his frame.
Before Nebraska
Heiman concluded a record-setting career for Coach Tim Brotzki at Platteview High School. A four-year starter, he finished his career with 1,315 points along with school records for both rebounds (883) and blocked shots (523).
He was NU's first in-state high school signee since 2001 when he inked his National Letter of Intent prior to his senior year. He was a three-star selection by Rivals and tallied 41 double-doubles and seven triple-doubles during his prep career.
As a senior, Heiman led Platteview to a 24-3 record and a berth in the Class B state tournament, averaging 17.3 points on 56 percent shooting, 10.1 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game. A first-team Super State honoree by the Lincoln Journal Star and an All-Nebraska selection by the Omaha World-Herald, he had three triple-doubles as a senior, including a 13-point, 14-rebound, 13-blocked shot performance against Omaha South.
As a junior, he was an honorable-mention all-state Class B pick by both the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. He averaged 15.7 points on 55 percent shooting, 8.9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game, as Platteview went 21-5 and reached the state tournament for the second straight year. He had seven double-doubles as a junior, including a 17-point, 11-block performance.
Heiman burst on the scene as a sophomore, averaging 13.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.7 blocks per game in helping Platteview post a 17-9 record and the school’s first state tournament appearance since 2000. In the district final, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 13 blocked shots and had seven games with at least 10 blocked shots, including a school-record 15 in one contest.
He played his AAU basketball with the Omaha Sports Academy and Bob Franzese and chose Nebraska after receiving more than a dozen scholarship offers.
In addition to his basketball exploits, he was a four-year performer in track and field. Heiman placed third in the Class B state championship in the high jump as a senior after finishing sixth and eighth in the state meet the two previous years. Heiman also carried better than 3.7 GPA throughout high school.
Personal
Brady is the son of Tracy and Erica Heiman and was born on Sept. 26, 1999, in Omaha. He has one younger brother, Jake. Brady’s father played collegiately at Chadron State and also won a national championship in the high jump at the school. Brady majors in finance at Nebraska.
