Outlook
Entering his third year in the program, Marques (pronounced MAR-cuss) McCarty will look for more playing time on the wing after a solid redshirt freshman campaign. With good size on the perimeter, McCarty has the ability to put the ball on the floor and slash to the basket, or pull up from the outside.

McCarty, one of the first high school recruits for Coach Barry Collier at Nebraska, has gained strength and size in the past two years since joining the Huskers. His work ethic and preparation have helped him fit nicely into Nebraska?s scheme.

2001-02 (Redshirt Freshman)

McCarty saw action in a total of 10 games during the season, including five in Big 12 Conference play.  McCarty averaged 0.7 points and 0.3 rebounds while playing a total of 20 minutes on the year.

McCarty made his first collegiate appearance at home against UT-San Antonio, when he played one minute. He recorded his first basket against Western Illinois with his 1-for-2 performance from the floor. McCarty?s only other basket came against Final Four participant Oklahoma. He went 3-of-8 from the free-throw line and added single rebounds in three games with a pair of blocked shots against SavannahState.

2000-01 (Freshman)

McCarty redshirted his first year and did not see any playing time during the season.

High School

A graduate of StephenF.AustinHigh School, McCarty averaged 15.1 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots per game during his senior season under Coach Troy Kite. He had career highs of 30 points and eight blocks during his prep career, and recorded 10 double-doubles as a senior.

Named the district?s defensive player of the year following his senior campaign, McCarty also starred for the Texas BlueChip AAU Team. The team played out of Dallas and was coached by Mitch Malone.
