John Robinson II finished his career in fine fashion, as he came on to start the final 13 games of the 2001-02 season and ended the year as the team's No. 3 scorer. Robinson, who converted from the point to the shooting guard prior to the season, led Nebraska in scoring nine times while averaging 10.6 points per game on the season. He added 3.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest.

Robinson had his best day in a Husker uniform when he scored a career-high 25 points to help Nebraska to a victory over Colorado. He added three other 20-point contests, including 22 points against No. 1 Kansas at home. His six three-pointers against the Jayhawks helped Nebraska set the team record with 18 threes on the day.

The Channelview, Texas, native also had a solid game against Missouri, when he collected 20 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. He finished the conference season tied for second in steals at 1.84 per game, and was 21st in scoring (13.5) and 12th in three-pointers per game (2.06) in league-only contests.
