Erick Strickland Season 1994-95

Senior (1995-96)
Erick Strickland ended his four-year career at Nebraska as the sixth leading scorer in NU history, with 1,586 career points. The Bellevue, Neb., native led the Huskers to the NIT title in 1996, and for his efforts was named the tournament MVP. Strickland led the team in scoring in 1995-96 with 14.7 points per game, and also led the team in steals with 61. He was second on the team to Jaron Boone with 52 three-pointers made, shooting at a 35.1 percent rate. Strickland became just the 12th player in Big Eight history to tally career totals of 1,000 points, 300 assists and 200 steals.

Junior (1994-95)
Earned honorable-mention All-Big Eight honors from the Associated Press and league coaches, and was named to the conference's All-Defensive team for the second straight year...had 21 points, a career-high-tying 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals in 38 minutes against Georgia...17 of his 21 points against the Bulldogs came in the first half, as he turned in his third double-double of the season and fourth of his career...unanimous MVP of the Ameritas Classic after leading NU to its seventh-straight title and was also named to the San Juan Shootout all-tournament team...scored in double figures in 28 of 31 outings, including eight 20-point-or-better outings (Huskers were 7-1 when Strickland hit for 20-plus points last season, and are 8-1 in his career)...led the Huskers in assists (133) and was second in scoring (16.3 ppg), rebounding (5.4 rpg) and minutes (942), third in free throw shooting (.727), fourth in 3-point percentage (.338)...led the Big Eight and was ranked ninth nationally in steals (2.9 spg)...was fifth in the league in assists (4.3 apg), eighth in field goal percentage (.444) and scoring (16.3 ppg)...in conference games only, he was first in steals (2.9 spg), eighth in assists (3.8 apg) and 10th in scoring (14.9 ppg)...grabbed five or more rebounds 19 times, including 10-board efforts against Michigan State, Western Illinois and Georgia...had at least one steal in 28 of 31 appearances, with two or more thefts 27 times and a career-high tying seven vs. Oklahoma...had at least one assist in all 31 appearances, and 35 straight over two seasons...dished out five or more assists 12 times with a high of eight vs. Penn State and Michigan State...his 505 points ranked as the 10th-best one-season total in school history...his 54 3-point goals rank as the sixth-highest one-season total in school history, while Strickland's 160 attempts ranked as the third-highest one-season performance...named to the 1995 Big Eight's all-sports academic honor roll after posting a 3.11 grade point average in sociology

Sophomore (1993-94)
Had seven points and five rebounds in first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Pennsylvania...came off the bench to score 13 points and grab three rebounds in 24 minutes vs. Oklahoma State in the Big Eight title game...averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the Big Eight Tournament, while shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three-point range...was named to the Big Eight All-Defensive and All-Bench teams...the Huskers were 11-2 with him as a starter and he played in all 30 games...joined teammates Eric Piatkowski and Bruce Chubick on the Ameritas Classic All-Tournament team...led the Huskers in steals 960) and free throw shooting (.811), was third in assists (96), fifth in scoring (10.7 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (3.4 rpg)...had 19 double-figure scoring games to his credit and had three or more steals 10 times...dished out five or more assists seven times, including a career-high nine against Texas-San Antonio...was third in the Big Eight in steals per game at 2.0 spg, seventh in free throw shooting...his 60 steals equaled the fourth-best season total in school history (he had an NU freshman record 47 thefts in 1992-93)...averaged 12.3 points in Big Eight play and was fourth in the league in free throw shooting at 86.2 percent.

Was selected Big Eight Freshman-of-the-Year by both the Associated Press and the league's coaches...was also named to the conference's all-freshman and all-bench squads, and was an honorable-mention All-Big Eight pick (AP)...first Nebraska player ever to win the league's freshman-of-the-year award...11th-team freshman All-America pick by Basketball Weekly and an honorable-mention pick on the USA Today Fab Freshman team...poured in an NU single-game freshman record 28 points against Missouri in Lincoln...his free throw with 10 seconds left broke an 87-all tie and gave Nebraska the overtime victory over the Tigers...was five-of-six from 3-point range against Missouri, tying the school single-game record for 3-point percentage (.833)...in league play, he averaged 8.5 points per game and hit 39.1 percent of his treys...his 3-point marksmanship was sixth best in the Big Eight...his 47 steals were the most ever by a Nebraska freshman and ranked as the eighth-highest single-season total in school history...was second on the team and 10th in the Big Eight in 3-point percentage for all games at .365...was second on the team in steals (47), fourth in free throw percentage (.729) and assists (66) and fifth in scoring (7.8 ppg)...had at least one steal in 22 games, with two or more steals 13 times...produced 10 double-figure scoring games...spent the summer (1993) playing for the Florida Marlins Class A team in the New York-Penn League, where he played for the Elmyra (N.Y.) Pioneers...hit .263 in 59 games, with 36 RBI and four home runs...had 12 doubles, three triples and eight stolen bases.
