2013-14 (Freshman)
Hawkins was a solid role player off the bench for the Huskers, appearing in 16 games and averaging 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. He missed NU’s first eight games with a foot injury before making his debut at Creighton on Dec. 8, where he played 11 minutes and had two rebounds. His best effort during non-conference action was against Arkansas State on Dec. 14, when he hit 2-of-4 shots for six points and had three rebounds in 17 minutes of work. Hawkins, who played in NU’s final four non-conference games, saved some of his best moments for Big Ten play. He saw his first action since Jan. 3 against Indiana, coming off the bench for 10 minutes, while his 3-pointer - his first since Dec. 14- sparked an 8-0 run, as Nebraska turned a three-point deficit into a 51-46 lead. He provided one of the few highlights in a loss at No. 10 Michigan on Feb. 5, coming off the bench for a career-high 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, with two rebounds and an assist. He also broke into the scoring column against Purdue with a 3-pointer. Hawkins transferred to UT-Arlington following his freshman season.

Before Nebraska

Hawkins was a four-year starter for Coach Stan Blackmon at Rowlett High School, located just outside of Dallas. Hawkins was a three-time first-team all-district selection who totaled 1,255 points and grabbed 492 rebounds during his high school career.  He was a consensus three-star selection from Scout.com, Rivals.com and 247sports.com and one of the top 250 players in the country by various recruiting services. Hawkins was rated as one of the top 15 seniors in Texas by ESPN.com and TexasHoops.com in the class of 2013, as well as one of the top 20 deep shooters nationally in the class of 2013 by Rivals.com’s Eric Bossi.

One of three players on the Rowlett squad who signed with Division I programs, Hawkins averaged 16.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a senior, helping Rowlett High School finish with a 22-9 record. He earned first-team all-district honors for the third straight season while being chosen as the District 11-5A Co-Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts. The 6-foot-5 guard garnered first-team all-district accolades during a junior campaign where he averaged 12.9 points, five rebounds and four assists per game to help Rowlett to a 22-9 mark and a Bi-District championship. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore, averaging 11.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest to garner all-district honors. Hawkins also played for the Dallas Mustangs AAU program and coaches Gerald Boone and Tony Johnson. Hawkins also performed well in the classroom, earning first-team academic all-state honors as a senior, carrying a 3.8 GPA and ranked in the top-10 percent of his senior class. He was also a four-time academic all-district pick. Hawkins chose Nebraska over Kansas State, Oklahoma, UTA and Oklahoma State.

Personal
Nathan is the son of Rob and Janene Hawkins and was born on Sept. 9, 1994, in San Antonio, Texas. He has an older sister, Lauren, who is a two-year starting middle blocker at the University of Memphis. Nathan has not declared a major at Nebraska.
