Bolis played one season at Southeast Community College for Coach Joel Wooton, where he started all 24 games for the Bobcats. He averaged 14.5 points per game on 50 percent shooting, 8.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Bolis, who was named to the Nebraska Community College Athletic All-Conference Team, shot 36 percent from 3-point range. He reached double figures 19 times, including each of the final 12 contests, and had five 20-point efforts. He totaled eight double-doubles, including a 21-point, 15-rebound effort against North Iowa Area CC. Bolis had a season-high 25 points against Central Community College-Columbus, and closed his freshman year by scoring 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range along with 10 rebounds in the Region IX title game.  Bolis played at Lincoln High School for Coach Dan Noble, as he averaged nine points and six rebounds per game as a senior. He was named to the Heartland Athletic Conference All-Tournament team and was an academic all-conference pick. Bolis missed his entire junior season with a knee injury.
