BEFORE NEBRASKA
Lanier won a pair of state championships during his high school career and was a four-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals. He was ranked among the top 125 players in the class of 2025 by both Rivals and 247Sports and a consensus top-three recruit in the state by all by each of the major recruiting sites. Lanier led Parkview Magnet High School to a 28-5 record and a 2026 Class 5A State Championship for Coach Jason Harrison. He was tabbed Player of the Year by the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association and a first-team all-state pick by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as a senior, averaging 28.0 points on 65 percent shooting, 8.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a senior. He was the MVP of the Class 5A Arkansas State tournament, averaging 28 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 rebounds per game in four tournament games, including 23 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and two steals in the Class 5A state title game against Marion. He totaled a pair of 40-point games as a senior, including a school-record 45-point effort, and posted the school’s first triple-double in another game with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists vs. Hot Springs. Lanier finished his junior season at DME (Fla.) Academy, helping the school win the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association State championship in 2025. He began his high school career at Maumelle High School, earning all-state honors as a freshman and sophomore, as he averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game as a freshman. Lanier was a member of the honor roll at Parkview Magnet School. He played for Gulf Coast Blue Chips on the UAA Circuit for Coach Bryon Rimm, earning first-team honors for the circuit in 2025 as he averaged 17.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game in helping his team to the Elite Eight of the UAA Finals in Chicago. Lanier was the MVP of the 2024 Pangos All American Camp Top 30 all-star game and attended the 2024 USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team April minicamp. Lanier chose Nebraska over TCU, Ole Miss, East Carolina and Texas State.
PERSONAL
The son of Jason and Sharon Lanier, Jacob has three brothers (Derrick, Joshua and Justen). Lanier majors in business administration at Nebraska.
