Brian Tapu was a dominant offensive lineman for Salt Lake City West High School. He played only one season of high school football after moving from New Zealand in 2023. At West High School, Tapu was coached by Toniu Fonoti, an All-American Husker lineman who is a member of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.

In his lone season at West High School, Tapu helped the Panthers to average nearly 35 points per game. The line led the way for an offense that averaged 325 passing yards and 285 rushing yards per game. Before coming to the United States, Tapu played basketball and netball in New Zealand.

Tapu is a three-star recruit who is a consensus choice as one of the top 10 recruits in Utah. Rivals ranks Tapu as one of the top 65 offensive tackle prospects in the country.
