Thomas D’Onofrio joins the Nebraska program as a safety prospect after he showed his ability as a ballhawk at Middleton (Wisc.) High School. The 6-1, 185-pound D’Onofrio had a hand in nine turnovers in the 2023 season, including seven interceptions, helping Middleton to a 9-2 record and a trip to the second round of the Division I state playoffs. His play as a junior helped Coach Jason Pertzborn’s team to a 7-4 record and a state playoff berth. D’Onofrio competed in track and field as a freshman and sophomore before he was sidelined by an injury during the 2023 track season. He also had an opportunity to join the Penn State program. Thomas’ father, Mark D’Onofrio, played at Penn State and was a second-round pick in the 1992 NFL Draft by Green Bay. He is a long-time college football coach and is currently the linebackers coach at Stanford. He worked on the same staff as Matt Rhule at Temple from 2006 to 2010.
