Before Nebraska (Statesboro HS)
Black was a talented athlete for Statesboro High School in Georgia before joining the Nebraska program. Black recorded 51 tackles from his defensive end spot in his final two seasons with the Blue Devils.
According to MaxPreps, Black made 34 tackles with 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks as a senior, when he was an honorable-mention all-region selection. In his junior campaign, Black totaled 17 tackles and had one fumble recovery.
Black also played basketball for Statesboro. He was named the No. 11 power forward in the state as a senior.
Black turned down scholarship offers from Southern Illinois and Savannah State to walk on at Nebraska.
