2014 Outlook
Gabe Miller stepped into the starting role at long snapper as a true freshman in 2013 and handled the duty very well.
Miller was part of a new group of specialists in 2013, and the group continued the Huskers' tradition of outstanding specialists. Behind the work of Miller, punter Sam Foltz ranked among the conference's leaders in punting, while the trio of Miller, Foltz at holder and place-kicker Pat Smith helped Nebraska connect on 13-of-14 field goals, the best percentage in the Big Ten.
Miller had a strong first year in the classroom, carrying a 3.511 cumulative grade-point average in broadcasting.
2013 (Freshman)
A scholarship signee in 2013, Miller played in every game as Nebraska's long snapper. The Huskers' punting team ranked fifth in the Big Ten in net punting at 37.9 yards per attempt. In kicking, Miller's flawless snapping allowed Nebraska to hit 13-of-14 field goals and 50-of-53 PATs. Miller also made a tackle on punt coverage at Minnesota.
Before Nebraska (Penn HS)
Miller was a key contributor for Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind., for three seasons. In 2012, Miller helped Coach Cory Yeoman's team to a 9-2 record and a trip to the second round of the Class 5A (largest class) playoffs in Indiana. Miller was the team's starting center and handled the long snapping chores. For his role in Penn's success, Miller was a first-team 5A all-state selection by the Indiana Football Coaches Association. Miller also earned Academic All-State honors in 2012.
Miller was the starting center and long snapper as a junior in 2011, when Penn High went 14-1 and reached the Class 5A state finals. He served as the starting long snapper and the backup center during his sophomore season when Penn High reached the state playoffs and finished with an 8-5 record. Miller also competed in track for Penn High School until his senior year. Miller graded out as one of the nation's top three long snappers at the Rubio Long Snapping Camp. He was also ranked as one of the top three long snappers in the country by several recruiting outlets. He was also ranked as one of the top 40 overall prospects in Indiana.
