2007 (Senior)
Senior Tyler Kester began his Nebraska career as a punter, but switched to defene in 2006 to add depth to the Husker secondary. The 6-1, 205-pounder from Clearwater, Neb., played in five games at cornerback over his final two seasons.
As a senior, Kester played in three games, seeing action against USC, Iowa State and Texas A&M, but he did not record a tackle. He did earn the first letter of his career in 2007.
Career
As a junior in 2006, Kester competed against Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State, but did not post a tackle. Kester was a backup punter behind Sam Koch in 2004 and 2005, but did not see game action. A walk-on, Kester redshirted in 2003.
Before Nebraska (Clearwater HS)
Kester was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and track at Clearwater High School. He was a first-team all-state performer in football and qualified for the state track meet on four occasions. Kester holds Clearwater school records for total career offensive yards and career touchdowns with 5,279 yards and 87 touchdowns. He averaged 41.6 yards per punt during his prep career.
Personal
The son of Bill and Sandy Kester, Tyler was born on March 20, 1985. He has volunteered his time with Chalk Talk Youth Football, the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, the Lincoln Action Program, as a speaker at Belmont Elementary and Village Manor Retirement Center. An agricultural economics major, Kester graduated in May of 2008.
