Senior offensive tackle D.J. Jones was a fixture in the Nebraska offensive line during the 2010 season, helping Nebraska produce outstanding offensive numbers. The 6-5, 310-pound Jones held down the right tackle spot, and was part of an offensive line that started intact throughout the 2010 campaign.
The line allowed Nebraska to lead the Big 12 in rushing offense, and produce three players with at least 900 rushing yards. Jones played both guard and tackle during his NU career, but settled in at tackle in 2010 and had to handle the bulk of the load on the right side with Marcel Jones sidelined much of the season by injury. Jones graduated with a degree in communications in May of 2010 and spent his senior season working toward a master’s degree.
2010 (Senior)
Jones started all 14 games at right tackle, and helped Nebraska rack up 10 games with 200 rushing yards, including back-to-back 300-yard rushing efforts early in the year vs. Idaho and Washington. NU also posted a 451-yard rushing effort at Kansas State, the most by a Nebraska offense in seven seasons. Nebraska runners have produced 12 100-yard rushing games behind the O-line, including three 100-yard rushers at Washington and a pair of runners over the century mark in two other games.
2009 (Junior)
Jones played in all 14 games, including starts at right tackle against Colorado, Texas and Arizona when Marcel Jones was sidelined with an ankle injury. D.J. Jones spent the majority of the year as the top backup at both tackle spots, while also serving as a blocker on Nebraska's place-kicking unit. Jones' play helped Nebraska junior I-back Roy Helu Jr. post the 29th 1,000-yard rushing season in school history.
2008 (Sophomore)
Jones played in two games as a reserve guard in 2008.
2007 (Redshirt Freshman)
He played in nine games as a backup guard in 2007, including each of the final eight contests of the season. While most of his time was spent at guard, he did see a few snaps at tackle and helped Nebraska rank in the top 10 nationally in passing and total offense.
2006 (Redshirt)
Jones redshirted in 2006 and helped form an impressive scout team line.
Before Nebraska (Central HS)
Jones was the first commitment of the 2006 NU class, pledging to NU in April of 2005. Jones earned first-team all-state honors as a senior playing for Coach Joe McMenamin at Omaha Central after earning honorable-mention accolades as a junior. He was named to the 2005 Lincoln Journal Star Super-State team and the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska team.
Jones was ranked as the top player in the state of Nebraska and among the top 20 offensive tackles in the country according to Rivals.com. Jones was also named a SuperPrep All-American and was among the top 10 players in the Midlands Region according to the publication. Jones chose Nebraska over Iowa State, Kansas and Houston.
Personal
D.J. is the son of Bridget Brown and David Jones Sr., and was born on May 8, 1988. He completed his degree work in communication studies in May. Jones has been a volunteer with School is Cool Week, team hospital visits and several other elementary school outreach activities. His outreach activities earned him a spot on the 2010 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.
