Place-kicker Josh Brown has been a key performer for the Huskers as a senior, providing an outstanding performance in place-kicking duties and regularly booming kickoffs. Brown has connected on 11-of-15 field goal attempts, including seven of 40 yards or longer. Brown also hit on all 44 of his PAT attempts, marking the second time in three seasons he has been perfect on extra-point duties. Brown has also keyed NU's kickoff team, hitting 38 of his 68 kickoffs for touchbacks.

Brown's strong season has been rewarded. He was selected first-team All-Big 12 by the league's coaches and was also a first-team all-conference pick by the Kansas City Star. The honors capped a season in which Brown has been a key part of one of the nation's top special teams units and made a steady climb toward the top of Nebraska's career scoring list.

Brown's 77 points in 2002 have pushed his career total to 304, placing him fourth on the NU career scoring list. Brown is in elite company near the top of the Husker career scoring list. He trails a pair of Heisman Trophy winners - Eric Crouch (No. 2, 368 points, 1998 to 2001) and Mike Rozier (No. 3, 312, 1981-83) and school-record holder and current Houston Texan place-kicker Kris Brown (388 from 1995 to 1998).

The Foyil, Okla., native has hit on 40-of-59 field goals and 184-of-188 PATs in his career. Ten of Brown's 40 career field goals have been from 40 yards or longer, including seven in 2002, tying a season record for most field goals of 40 yards or longer. The total does not include a career-long 51-yarder in the 2000 Alamo Bowl against Northwestern.

Brown has twice made three field goals in a game (Texas A&M, 1999; Kansas, 2001) and has made 16 of his last 21 attempts dating back to last season. He connected on his first six attempts in 2002, before a miss in the fourth quarter vs. Missouri, snapping a streak of eight straight made FG attempts. He has since made 5-of-8 field goal attempts, including 48-yarders against Texas and at Kansas State, his longest career regular-season field goals.

Throughout his career, Brown has been at his best against tough competition, hitting 16-of-22 field goals against ranked teams (2-of-3 in bowl games). Brown has hit two or more field goals in a game 11 times.

Brown completed his undergraduate work at Nebraska this semester and graduated with a degree in communication studies last week.

2001: Brown hit on 34-of-37 PATs and connected on 10-of-14 field goals to score 64 points for the Huskers. He was 1-of-3 on field goals of 40 yards or more; 9-of-11 under that range. After sitting out the first game, Brown converted four PATs and had one kickoff vs. Troy State. Brown took over the kickoff duties in the second quarter against Rice and converted his only PAT attempt. After regaining the starting duties against Missouri, Brown converted Nebraska's only field goal, a 38-yard attempt that put the Huskers up 16-3. Brown's streak of consecutive regular-season PATs made ended at 104 (117 straight including bowl games) against Iowa State, after he hit the upright following Nebraska?s third touchdown. Brown ended the evening 5-of-6 on PATs and of his eight kickoffs, only three were returned for 37 total yards. Brown was 5-for-5 on PAT attempts at Baylor, but missed a 50-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half. Brown had his most productive game of the season against Texas Tech, converting five PATs and field goals of 33 and 36 yards. On his second kickoff of the game, Brown sent the ball 43 yards, where Jason Wesley fumbled the kick, leading to Nebraska's second touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Brown recorded his first solo tackle when he knocked Ivory McCann out-of-bounds on the return. He had two solo tackles and a career-high three total tackles in the game. For the second consecutive game, Brown converted two field goals, helping the Huskers defeat Oklahoma 20-10. Brown?s 27-yard kick late in the second quarter gave the Huskers a brief 10-7 lead, while his 26-yard conversion early in the third quarter to put NU up 13-10, proved to be all Nebraska would need for the victory. After missing a 37-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter, Brown rebounded to make three consecutive kicks at Kansas (tied career best), including a regular-season career-long of 43 yards to end the first half. Brown also hit two 32-yard field goals, was 5-for-5 on PATs and recorded one tackle. Brown was 1-for-2 on field goals vs. KSU, converting a 28-yarder early in the fourth quarter. He was 2-of 3 on PATs, ending his streak of consecutive PATs made at 21 when he missed wide left on a 35-yard attempt following NU's second touchdown. Brown extended his streak of games with at least one field goal made to five when he scored Nebraska's first three points on a 27-yard kick at Colorado. He was 3-of-4 on PATs (missing the first) and had one tackle. Brown ended the season hitting on five of his last six field goals. In the 2002 Rose Bowl, Brown was 2-for-2 on PATs.

2000: Brown finished the season perfect on PAT attempts (tying the school percentage record set five other times by four other kickers, most recently Kris Brown in 1997), making 60-of-60 PATs (school season record is 62-of-62 by Kris Brown in 1997), to extend his streak to 95 consecutive regular-season PATs. He was 5-of-10 on field goal attempts, with a long of 40 yards at Iowa State. Brown hit a regular-season career-best 8-of-8 PATs three times, at Texas Tech and vs. Baylor Kansas. Brown finished the season second on the team in scoring with 75 points.

Brown hit on 5-of-10 field goals. He hit a season-long 40-yarder vs. Iowa State. Brown made all four PATs at No. 16 Kansas State, but missed a 28-yard field goal with 12:11 remaining in the second quarter of the 29-28 loss. Brown hit on 2-of-3 field goals in Nebraska's last regular-season game vs. Colorado, including a game-winning 29-yarder as time expired, giving Nebraska a 34-32 win. In the 2000 Alamo Bowl vs. Northwestern, Brown hit on all nine of his PATs, tying the NCAA bowl record for most PATs made and most PATs attempted. Brown hit on a career-best 51-yard field goal with 1:28 remaining in the first half. Brown scored 12 of Nebraska's NCAA bowl-record 66 points.

1999: As a redshirt freshman, Brown took over the place-kicking duties for four-year starter Kris Brown and performed well in his rookie season. He hit on 14-of-20 field goals and 46-of-47 extra points, scoring 88 points to rank second on the team behind Eric Crouch and eighth in the Big 12. An early season hamstring pull eliminated him from kickoff duties. After missing a 21-yard field goal against Texas A&M, his first of four attempts that day, Brown made 10 of his last 11 field goals. In that span, he made at least two field goals in a game three times, including a career-best three against Texas A&M (on a career-high four attempts). He hit a season-best 7-of-7 PATs vs. Iowa State. He hit a season-best 42-yard field goal vs. Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. Brown put the Huskers up 17-0 in the Fiesta Bowl against Tennessee, when he hit on a 31-yard field goal with 1:37 remaining in the second quarter. He also hit on all four of his PATs against the Vols.

1998: With the kicking duties securely in the hands of seniors Kris Brown and Bill Lafleur, Brown redshirted his first year.

At Foyil HS: Brown played running back, safety and served as the team's punter (40.8 average per kick in 1997) and place-kicker at Foyil High School. He hit on 8-of-16 field goal attempts, with a career-long 61-yarder (in the state playoffs in 1996) and 38-of-42 PATs. He also returned punts and kickoffs. As a running back, he rushed for 1,891 yards and 51 touchdowns, playing eight-man football. Brown was a SuperPrep All-America place-kicker. He totaled 9,136 career all-purpose yards and 122 career touchdowns. As a senior, he earned first-team all-state honors. He was a two-time Class A state champion in the high jump, clearing a career-best of 6-8 at the state meet in both 1997 and 1998. He picked Nebraska over Oklahoma.

Personal: Born on April 29, 1979, Josh's parents are Kenneth and Quana Brown. Josh has two older sisters and a brother. He was named to the 1998 Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Semester Academic Honor Roll. He majors in communication studies and is on schedule to earn his degree in December 2002. He is a four-year member of the Unity Council and this summer worked at the Pacific Pals Youth Camp.
