Career

Travis Toline played in 39 games throughout his Husker career. He finished with 34 tackles (14 solo), four tackles for eight yards lost, a two yard sack and a quarterback hurry. He graduated from Nebraska as a member of all three of its 1990 national championship teams.

1998 (Senior)

Toline was one of two seniors (the other being Lance Brown) who played their senior season with their degree already in hand. Toline backed up Mike Rucker at right rush end, playing in every game. Toline recorded nine tackles (five solo) on the season. He appeared in the 1998 Holiday Bowl against Arizona, but did not register a tackle.

1997 (Junior)

Toline backed up two-time All-American Grant Wistrom at right rush end and was a member of the Husker kickoff return and punt coverage teams. Playing in 11 games, Toline had seven tackles (two solo), three tackles for six yards lost and one quarterback hurry. He had a season-best three tackles against Baylor. His tackles for loss were against Akron, Kansas and Oklahoma. He played in the 1998 Orange Bowl against Tennessee, but did not have any tackles.

1996 (Sophomore)

Toline played in all 12 games on the kickoff team and as a backup on the left side behind All-American Jared Tomich and sophomore Chad Kelsay. Toline finished the year with 15 tackles (six solo). He had two quarterback hurries and a tackle for two yards lost against Kansas, when he had a career-best six stops (two solo). Toline appeared in the 1996 Orange Bowl against Virginia Tech, but did not record any tackles.

1995 (Freshman)

Toline played in four games as a reserve and recorded three tackles, including a two-yard sack against Iowa State. He had one tackle three times, including Arizona State, Missouri and ISU. Toline played in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl against Florida, but did not register a tackle.

1994 (Redshirt)

A scholarship athlete, Toline redshirted his first year in Lincoln.

Wahoo High School

An offensive guard and defensive end for Coach Dick Tinglehoff, Toline had 78 tackles (50 solo) in eight games as a senior, including six sacks, seven tackles for losses, two fumble recoveries, one safety and an interception for a touchdown. Also the Warriors' short and long snapper, Toline earned all-class, all-state honors from both major Nebraska newspapers in football. He was an honorable-mention all-state selection in basketball as a three-year starter for the two-time Class B state champion Warriors. A 6-4 high jumper, Toline earned 11 letters in high school, four each in football and track and three in basketball. A straight "A" student, Toline was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the student council, an academic all-stater and finished No. 1 in his class. He is the first scholarship football player from Wahoo since safety Steve Carmer signed in 1988.

Personal

The son of George and Mary Toline, Travis was born on Nov. 12, 1975. Travis majored in mechanical engineering and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 1998. At the 1997 University of Nebraska Honors Convocation, Toline received a "High Scholar" award for posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.6 or higher. He was also a panelist during American Education Week.
