Steve Altstadt served as a reserve guard for the Huskers, playing in 10 games and the 2002 Rose Bowl vs. Miami as a senior, backing up starter Jon Rutherford and Wes Cody at right guard.  Altstadt also served as the left guard for the Husker PAT and field goal units.  He finished the year with 14 pancakes, including a season-best four vs. Iowa State.  A two-year letterwinner, Altstadt totaled 21 career pancakes, while playing in 22 regular-season games.

Altstadt did not play in 2000.  In 1999, he served as Russ Hochstein's backup at right guard and was a member of the Husker PAT and field goal units.  Altstadt played 12 games in 1999 and recorded seven pancakes on the year, with a season-best four against Iowa.  He also played in the 2000 Fiesta Bowl vs. Tennessee.  After redshirting as a true freshman scholarship athlete in 1997, Altstadt did not play in 1998.
