Career

Ben Buettenback appeared in 28 games throughout his Husker career as a reserve Mike linebacker. He finished with 11 tackles (three solo), a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

1999 (Senior)

Buettenback and Jamie Burrow backed up Carlos Polk at Mike linebacker. Buettenback played in seven games and totaled three tackles (one solo) and recovered a fumble. He earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third time in his career, and received second-team academic All-Big 12 honors.

1998 (Junior)

Buettenback played in five regular-season games last season as backup at Mike linebacker to Jay Foreman and Polk. He had one assisted tackled against Washington and was also a member of the Huskers' No. 2 punt return team. Buettenback received first-team academic All-Big 12 honors.

1997 (Sophomore)

Buettenback and Polk combined as backups to starting Mike linebacker Foreman in 1997. Buettenback traveled to every game and played in 10 contests, totaling five tackles (two solo) on the season. He was also a member of NU's No. 2 kickoff and punt return teams. He had a season-best two tackles against Akron (both solo) and Iowa State. He played in the 1998 FedEx Orange Bowl, but did not have any tackles. For the second consecutive year, Buettenback earned honorable-mention academic All-Big 12 honors.

1996 (Freshman)

Buettenback played in six games as a backup to starter Jon Hesse and Foreman at Mike linebacker. He had two assisted tackles and one pass breakup. He earned honorable-mention All-Big 12 academic honors.

1995 (Redshirt)

A walk-on athlete, Buettenback redshirted his first year.

Hastings High School

Playing middle linebacker and fullback, Buettenback helped lead Hastings High to the Class A championship trophy in 1993 and the Class B title in 1994. He earned first-team all-state and all-Nebraska linebacker honors his senior year, as he had 129 tackles (83 solo) and two interceptions. He rushed for 603 yards on 92 carries in 1994 and completed five passes for 202 yards and scored a total of seven touchdowns. He totaled 332 yards, four touchdowns, 104 tackles (77 solo) and one interception as a junior. He was a four-year academic all-conference pick playing for Coach Walt Olson and played in the 1995 Nebraska Shrine Bowl.

Personal

The son of Ace and Robin Buettenback, Ben was born on March 17, 1977, in Burlington, Colorado. Ben majored in biological sciences and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 1999.
