Career
Ryan Held joined the Huskers in 1994 as a walk-on split end. He was a member of the Husker football team for four seasons, redshirting his first year, before shifting his focus to coaching. Held was an undergraduate assistant coach for the 1997 national championship team.
1996 (Junior)
Held entered the fall semester of his junior year as a reserve split end behind Brendan Holbein, Jeff Lake and Kenny Cheatham. He did not see any game time.
1995 (Sophomore)
As a backup split end, Held played in four games and did not have any receptions. He had one tackle as a member of NU special teams. He played in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl.
1994 (Freshman)
Held was a reserve quarterback for the Huskers, and during the injury-laden midseason, when Tommie Frazier and Brook Berringer were both injured, Held played a vital role at practice. He moved as high as third on the depth chart and was scout team player-of-the-week four times. Held played in the Pacific game and had one rush for no yards gained.
1993 (Redshirt)
A walk-on athlete, Held redshirted his first year in Lincoln.
Before Nebraska (Blue Valley North High School)
Held was an all-state wide receiver, kicker and defensive back his senior year at Blue Valley North High School. Playing for Coach Tim Burkindine, Held scored 11 touchdowns on 46 receptions his senior year, totaling 843 yards. He earned all-league honors in football, baseball and basketball and was a member of the academic honor roll all four years.
Personal
The son of Fred and Theresa Held, Ryan was born on Nov. 23, 1974.
