Honors & Awards

  • Member of Two Nebraska National Championship Teams (1994, 1995)

Career

Todd Uhlir played two years for the Huskers before a shoulder injury put him out of action. He was a member of Nebraska's back-to-back national championship teams and would go on to pursue other interests after the 1995 season.

1995 (Sophomore)

Uhlir had a host of talent ahead of him at the I-back position going into his sophomore year. Veterans Lawrence Phillips, Damon Benning and Clinton Childs would share majority of the snaps, but the walk-on sophomore held his own. Uhlir practiced at both I-back and fullback and was the leading rusher for the White team in the 1995 annual Red-White Spring Game with nine carries for 114 yards, including an 89-yard touchdown -- a spring game record. During the second week of fall camp, Uhlir tore his right shoulder and would need surgery, keeping him out of action the remainder of the year.

1994 (Freshman)

Uhlir played in five games and rushed the ball six times for 27 yards (4.5 yards a carry) including a career-long carry of 10 yards against Pacific. He had one carry for five yards against West Virginia, 2-9 against UCLA and 3-13 against Pacific. Uhlir did not play in the Huskers' last seven games.

1993 (Redshirt)

A walk-on, Uhlir redshirted his first year in Lincoln.

Battle Creek High School

The state's leading rusher was named to the Journal-Star Super-State and Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska teams. He set seven playoff records, five of them all-class. He was also a state track qualifier three years, all-conference in wrestling two years and a member of the Class C midget Legion state championship team. He was recruited by many schools, but chose to walk-on at Nebraska.

Personal

The son of Richard and Vicki Uhlir, Todd was born on Jan. 8, 1975.
