  • Member of the 1997 Nebraska National Championship Team

Career

Lonnie Fulton joined the Huskers in 1996 after earning a scholarship on the offensive line. He saw action in three games during his career. Fulton left Nebraska as a member of the 1997 national championship team.

Grand Island High School

Fulton came to NU from Grand Island, a long-time feeder school for the Huskers. He reported to the Huskers in January, 1996, for the spring semester and received a scholarship at that time after having left shoulder surgery, in June, for a chronic high school injury. Fulton started on both offense and defense for Coach Jon Farrand and the Islanders. Fulton was selected as an All-American by Blue Chip Illustrated and as an All-Midlands region offensive lineman by SuperPrep. He earned first-team all-class honors by the Omaha World-Herald and Super-State honors by the Lincoln Journal-Star as an offensive tackle. A two-year starter on both sides of the ball, Fulton co-captained his team last season. His best game was against Hastings when he had over 10 "pancakes" (knock-down blocks) and 13 tackles including two for losses.

Personal

The son of Lloyd and Lavonne Fulton, Lonnie was born on Jan. 11, 1977. His brother, Brian, graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Nebraska. Lonnie only visited Nebraska and was NU's third commitment turning down offers from Iowa State, Wyoming and Colorado State.
