Joe Horst played four years for the Huskers, redshirting his first year, before pursuing other interests. He saw playing time in eight games but never recorded a reception.

Wood River High School

Horst was a teammate of sophomore quarterback Scott Frost at Wood River where he earned all-conference honors three times as a running back. He was an honorable-mention all-state pick as a senior playing running back and nose guard. He had a 99-yard touchdown as a junior. He earned a total of 11 letters including four in football, four in track and three in basketball.
