Career

Derek Allen appeared in 13 games over his two year Husker career. He finished with seven tackles, two sacks, one pass breakup, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Following his sophomore season in 1997 he decided to pursue other interests and did not return to the team.

1997 (Sophomore)

Allen entered his sophomore season No. 3 at defensive tackle behind Jason Peter and Brandon Drum. Allen played in eight games and had two tackles (one solo) while also forcing a fumble.

1996 (Freshman)

Allen earned his first letter playing in five games. He totaled five tackles, two sacks for nine yards lost, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. His sacks were against Baylor (1-8) and Oklahoma (1-1). Allen had two tackles in a game twice, against Baylor and Kansas.

1995 (Redshirt)

Allen redshirted is first year as a Husker.

Before Nebraska (Russellville High School)

One of the premier defensive linemen in the nation, Allen was named to The Arkansas Democrat's all-state defensive team after posting a monster senior season. Allen was selected as a SuperPrep and Bluechip Illustrated All-American as a defensive lineman. He earned two-time all-state honors and was the 1994 Arkansas Defensive Player-of-the-year. Allen was the top sophomore and top junior in the state, and following his senior year, was named the fourth-best defensive lineman in the nation by The Sporting News. For the season, Allen had 76 tackles (47 solo), eight sacks, 25 QB hurries, four forced fumbles, three pass breakups and five tackles for losses playing for Coach Phil Collins. He helped lead Russellville to the second round of the state playoffs, with a 9-3 record -- the most wins ever in a season for the school. Allen also competed in track and threw the shot 50 feet as a junior. He took visits to Nebraska, Iowa, Boston College and Virginia and was also recruited by Louisville, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma State.
