Career

Brendan Zahl finished his five-year collegiate career appearing in three games. He was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Semester Academic Honor Roll in 1996 and participated on three Nebraska national championship teams (1994, 1995, 1997). Zahl was also named to the inaugural Brook Berringer Citizenship Team in 1997 in honor of his services throughout the community.

1997 (Senior)

Zahl was a fifth-year senior in 1997 and served as the reserve rush end. He did not see any game action.

1996 (Junior)

Zahl had not seen any game action his first two, active, years as a Husker, but that changed as he saw action in three games as a reserve rush end his junior year. He did not record any receptions.

1995 (Sophomore)

Zahl spent his sophomore season as a reserve rush end, but did not see any game action.

1994 (Freshman)

As a redshirt-freshman, Zahl was a reserve rush end, but did not see any game action.

1993 (Redshirt)

Zahl redshirted his first year in Lincoln.

Stratton High School

Zahl played tight end and defensive end for Coach Brent Williamson at Stratton High School. He earned honorable-mention Class D-1 all-state honors with 170 tackles in his last two years. Zahl was an academic all-state honoree and served as his school's valedictorian. He also lettered three times in basketball and four times in golf.

Personal

The son of Bill and Linda Zahl, Brendan was born July 17, 1975. At the 1997 University of Nebraska Honors Convocation, Brendan received a "High Scholar" award for posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 or higher. He worked with the Husker Outreach Program and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His mother had previously attended UNL.
