Career

Andy Bilanzich joined the Huskers in 1995 after earning a scholarship as a punter. He didn't see any game action and decided, following his first year as a Husker, to pursue other interests. Bilanzich left as a member of the 1995 national championship team.

Before Nebraska (Judge Memorial Catholic High School)

Bilanzich was a punter, place-kicker, tight end and nose guard for Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was named to the Bluechip Illustrated's All-America team as a kicker after he averaged 48.5 yards per punt as a senior and led the state with a 43.0 net punting average. He played for Coach John Colosimo where he set a state record for five punts in one game with a 56-yard average. He had a career-best 68-yard punt in 1994 and kicked seven field goals of 45 yards or more, including a career-long 54 yarder against West High School (five were 47 yards or more). Of his punts, 65 percent were downed inside the 20-yard line. He was the MVP two years at the Mark Adams Kicking Camp and of the Ray Parrella Kicking Camp in 1994. He was an all-state kicker and defensive lineman as a senior and all-state kicker as a junior and also was a starter on offense at tight end. Andy committed to Nebraska early, although he was also recruited by Utah, Colorado and BYU.

Personal

The son of Jerry and Susan Bilanzich, Andy was born on Oct. 2, 1976. Andy's the nephew of former NU tight end Steve Davis (1978-80). An avid Husker fan, Andy had a special false eye made with an "N" on it. He lost his left eye in a childhood accident.
