1994 (Senior)
Matt Shaw served as Nebraska's starting tight end his senior year, alternating time with Mark Gilman and Eric Alford. Although Shaw never caught a pass in his three-year career, he was a key member of the Huskers' No. 1 offensive line as he had excellent blocking skills. Shaw helped pave the way for a Nebraska running game that led the nation with 340.0 yards per game on the way to the Huskers' national championship. A standout off the field, Shaw claimed first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, while claiming first-team academic All-Big Eight recognition.

1993 (Junior)
Shaw served as a second-team tight end behind Gerald Armstrong and Trumane Bell in 1993. Shaw played in every game, including the 1994 Orange Bowl. He started the Kansas State game when Armstrong was out with a hamstring injury, and NU opened with a double tight end set. With a 3.75 GPA in biological science, Shaw earned a spot Big Eight Academic Honor Roll.

1992 (Sophomore)
Shaw played in eight games as a backup tight end in 1992, but did not catch a pass. He recorded one solo tackle on special teams and earned his first varsity letter. An outstanding blocker, Shaw helped pave the way for a Nebraska rushing attack that led the nation with 328.2 yards per game.

1991 (Redshirt)
As a walk-on, Shaw redshirted in 1991.

1990 (Freshman)
As a tight end for the Husker JV team, Shaw caught three passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Before Nebraska (Northeast HS)
Shaw earned two letters in football while playing safety, wide receiver and tight end. He also earned two letters in basketball and one in baseball at Lincoln Northeast. He played for the Rockets' state runner-up basketball team in 1990 and made a three-quarter court shot in the state title game which put him in the spotlight, including national TV networks.

Personal
Matt is the son of David and JoAnne Shaw. He was born on Sept. 14, 1971 in Lincoln, Neb. Matt majored in biological sciences. He was also a volunteer mentor for the Husker Teammates program.
