Career

Leslie Dennis finished his Husker career with 26 tackles (14 solo), four pass breakups and two interceptions. He progression as a corner was slowed his junior and senior years as he battled knee tendonitis.

1997 (Senior)

Dennis entered the fall listed second behind returning starter Ralph Brown at right corner, but did not see any playing time his senior year as he battled knee tendonitis.

1996 (Junior)

Dennis only saw action in two games in 1996. Sore knees kept him out of the first six games of the season and he did not have any tackles.

1995 (Sophomore)

Dennis played in nine games in 1995 as the backup right corner behind senior Tyrone Williams. Dennis had 10 tackles on the season (five solo), including one breakup and one interception against Oklahoma State (no yards on the return). He did not play against Pacific, Washington State or Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. He tied his career best with three stops against Colorado.

1994 (Freshman)

Dennis played in every game and started the season opener against West Virginia in the Kickoff Classic in place of Tyrone Williams. In 12 games, Dennis recorded 16 tackles with three pass breakups and one interception. In his only start, Dennis had two solo tackles and a pass breakup to help the Huskers to their first of 13 wins. He also had two tackles and a breakup against the UCLA Bruins, while his sole interception, which he returned 48 yards, came against the Pacific Tigers. He had a career-high three tackles against Texas Tech and Missouri. In the 1995 Orange Bowl against Miami, Dennis played but did not have any tackles.

1993 (Redshirt)

A scholarship athlete, Dennis redshirted is first year.

Before Nebraska (Southeast High School)

Dennis was named to the Premier List by Prep Sports Recruiting magazine. A first-team All-Florida defensive back for Southeast Coach Paul Maechtle in 1992, Dennis was a two-time all-area pick. A two-year starter at cornerback, Dennis had 38 tackles, two interceptions, five breakups and one fumble recovery in 1992. He filled in six games for an injured tailback and rushed for 454 yards and five touchdowns. The Seminoles ranked fourth in the state at the end of the season and were beaten in the opening round of the Class 4 A Playoffs (second largest) by eventual champion Ft. Myers, which was ranked fourth nationally at the time by USA Today. A true speedster, Dennis defeated former Florida State speedster Tamarick Vanover in the 100 prelims with a 10.4 clocking but false-started in the finals. He also defeated Vanover in the 200-meter dash and finished third at the 1992 state meet.

The son of Eugene and Rosa Dennis, Leslie was born March 21, 1975.
