1994 (Senior)
One of Nebraska’s top defensive players, senior Troy Dumas started 11 of Nebraska’s 12 regular-season games at Sam linebacker, missing only the Oklahoma State game. He finished the season with 69 tackles, including 38 solos, with four tackles for 17 yards lost. He also had one sack for six yards. Dumas forced a fumble, blocked a kick, hauled in one interception, and registered seven quarterback hurries to help Nebraska to an undefeated national championship season. Dumas earned first-team All-Big Eight honors from the Associated Press as a senior before being drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.

A four-year varsity letterman, Dumas played in 41 career regular-season games with 18 starts. He also played in all four of Nebraska’s Orange Bowl appearances from 1992 to 1995. He notched three tackles in NU’s 24-17 win over Miami in the 1995 Federal Express Orange Bowl, including a five-yard sack. He finished his Husker career with 131 tackles, five tackles for 18 yards lost, one sack for six yards, a fumble caused, a blocked kick, five pass breakups, an interception and eight quarterback hurries.

Dumas spent three years with the Chiefs from 1995 to 1997, before playing for the Denver Broncos in 1998.

1993 (Junior)
Dumas played in nine regular-season games with five starts as a junior in 1993, helping Nebraska to a Big Eight title and an unbeaten regular season. He made his first four starts at free safety before moving to Sam linebacker late in the season. Dumas totaled 20 tackles, including six solos, while notching his first career tackle for loss. He added a quarterback hurry and four pass breakups.

Dumas opened the 1993 season as a starter at free safety and against Kansas State, but suffered an ankle sprain and missed games with Colorado and Kansas. He then made the move to Sam linebacker after starter Ernie Beler suffered an injured knee. Dumas made his final start of the year against Oklahoma. Dumas posted a season-high six tackles against both UCLA and Oklahoma. He also had a career-high two breakups against Kansas State. He notched one tackle against Florida State in the 1994 Federal Express Orange Bowl national championship game.

1992 (Sophomore)
The backup free safety behind Tyrone Byrd, Dumas played in all 11 regular-season games with two starts (Arizona State, Oklahoma State) when Byrd was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Dumas recorded a career-high 12 tackles against ASU in his first career start. He added a pass breakup against the Sun Devils. He closed the year with 31 tackles (17 solo). He played against Florida State in the 1993 Federal Express Orange Bowl but did not record a tackle.

1991 (Freshman)
A scholarship recruit, Dumas played in 10 of Nebraska’s 11 regular-season games, finishing the year with 11 tackles, including five solos. In the Orange Bowl against Miami, Dumas added two tackles including one for a four-yard loss. He was one of three Husker freshmen who did not redshirt, joining Abdul Muhammad and linebacker Doug Colman.

Cheyenne East High School
A top all-around athlete, Dumas was a two-sport all-state performer who earned nine varsity letters at Cheyenne East High School in Wyoming. He rushed for 688 yards and was the state’s fifth-leading rusher as a senior. Dumas amassed 1,057 yards of total offense and scored 74 points for Coach Dwayne Trembly in 1990. He led the state in punt return average (32.8 ypr) with four touchdowns on nine returns. He added 36 unassisted tackles, 25 assisted stops and one interception. Cheyenne East’s MVP, Dumas earned second-team all-state honors as a senior. He won the state triple jump title as both a junior and senior. He held the Wyoming state record with a leap of 48-8. He was also a member of East’s state champion 400-meter relay team.

Personal
The son of John and Eileen Dumas, Troy was born in Riverside, Calif. He has two brothers, Travis and Eric. Troy majored in human development and the family at Nebraska. He was on track to graduate in May 1995. He was the keynote speaker for American Education Week in 1993.
