Career
Tom Sieler was a regular contributor for four seasons as a place-kicker for Nebraska, earning four varsity letters on his way to helping the Huskers to the 1994 national championship. A member of three consecutive Big Eight Conference championship teams, Sieler played in 34 regular-season games as a Husker and appeared in both the 1994 and 1995 Federal Express Orange Bowls. Sieler, who shared place-kicking duties with Darin Erstad as a senior, hit 56-of-59 PATs and 4-of-6 field goals to finish with 68 points in his career. Following his Husker career, Sieler signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
1994 (Senior)
A four-year letterwinner, Sieler appeared in 11 regular-season games and the 1995 Federal Express Orange Bowl, helping Nebraska capture the national championship in a 24-17 win over Miami. Sieler, who was 2-for-2 on PATs against the Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl, went 40-for-42 on PATs during the regular season while hitting 4-of-6 field goals. He finished his senior season with 52 points.
1993 (Junior)
Sieler was Nebraska’s primary option on kickoffs and served as the backup to Byron Bennett on place-kicking duties. Sieler, who earned his third varsity letter, went 2-for-2 on PATs (North Texas, Iowa State) to stretch his personal streak of 16 consecutive made PATs. He did not attempt a field goal. He also had one tackle on special teams during the regular season before adding an assisted tackle in the 1994 Federal Express Orange Bowl against Florida State.
1992 (Sophomore)
A back-up place-kicker to Bennett, Sieler kicked in seven games as a sophomore to earn his second letter. He did not attempt a field goal, but he went 6-for-6 on PATs to extend a streak of 14 consecutive made PATs over his first two seasons on the field for the Huskers.
1991 (Redshirt Freshman)
Sieler earned a letter for the Huskers by connecting on 8 of 9 PATs, missing only his first attempt. He did not attempt a field goal.
1990 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Sieler redshirted in 1990.
Before Nebraska (Lincoln Northeast High School)
Sieler was a four-time letterwinner as a kicker for Coach Bobby Johnson at Chaparral High School. He made 34 of 35 PATs and 13 of 16 field goals with a long of 51 yards. He was an all-state selection as a senior in 1989.
Personal
The son of Cliff and Anne Sieler, Tom was born Feb. 11, 1972. He majored in economics at Nebraska. He was a Teammates mentor and volunteered at the Friendship Home Footfest and the Omaha Youth Rap Sessions.
