1992 (Senior)
One of the best punters in Nebraska history, Stigge was an All-Big Eight performer on the field and a two-time first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in the classroom. Stigge finished his career as Nebraska's all-time leader with 41.75 yards per punt over his four-year career. His 167 punts were also a record, surpassing Randy Lessman's 150 in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Stigge's senior season he averaged 43.2 yards on 53 punts, including a school-record 87-yarder against Oklahoma State. Off the field, Stigge claimed first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
1991 (Junior)
Stigge finished with a 42.03 yards per punt, which ranked 16th in the nation. He was second in the Big Eight behind Kansas State's Dan Eichloff (42.33). It was Nebraska's best average for a punter since Grant Campbell's 43.36 yards in 1981. Stigge didn't record his first punt of the season until the third game of the year because Nebraska did not punt. He earned All-Big Eight honors from the coaches. Off the field, he captured first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
1990 (Sophomore)
Stigge had a shaky start to his sophomore season averaging 35.9 yards on nine punts in the first four games. He came back with the best day of his career in the conference opener at Kansas State, averaging 47.7 yards on six kicks. Stigge went on to average 43.0 on 31 punts against conference teams. For his sophomore season, Stigge averaged 41.38 yards on 40 punts to rank 21st in the nation and second in the Big Eight.
1989 (Freshman)
Stigge took over for graduated three-year started John Kroeker, and averaged a solid 39.7 yards on 35 punts, with a long punt of 51 yards. He earned academic All-Big Eight honors.
1988 (Redshirt)
Stigge redshirted his first season with the Huskers.
Before Nebraska (Washington HS)
Stigge was an all-state defensive back, he also played quarterback and handled punting and kicking duties. He lettered four times each in football and track, and three times in basketball.
Personal
Mike is the son of Lavern and Verlene Stigge and has four sisters. He was born on Oct. 31, 1969, in Hanover, Kan.
