1993 (Senior)
Playing in every regular season game as a senior, Heins recorded nine total tackles on the year (three solo) and one tackle for a one yard loss against UCLA.
1992 (Junior)
Heins served as the alternate backup with Barron Miles to Kenny Wilhite at left cornerback. He played in nine games and recorded five tackles (four solo) and broke up one pass. He saw action in the Federal Express Orange Bowl vs. Florida State but did not record any tackles.
1991 (Sophomore)
The alternate right corner behind All-Big Eight senior Tyrone Legette, Heins played in six regular-season games and finished the year with four total tackles (one solo). He also saw action against Miami in the Orange Bowl.
1990 (Redshirt)
Heins redshirted the 1990 season.
1989 (Freshman)
After walking on, Heins became the starting right corner for the Husker Junior Varsity, and was sixth overall in tackles as he led the defensive backs with 19 total, including 14 unassisted stops and one for a loss of 13 yards. Heins was one of six jayvees with one interception.
At David City HS
Mike was a C-1 all-state defensive end as a junior in 1987 and an all-state linebacker in 1988. He also played fullback on offense as a four-year letterman for Coach Kevin Kopecky. He lettered three times in basketball and track.
Personal
Mike is the son of Dean and Connie Heins and was born Nov. 29, 1970, at Columbus, Neb. He has two brothers, Dustin and Jake, and a sister, Gretchen. Mike graduated in December of 1993 with a degree in agribusiness.
