Member of 1994 Nebraska National Championship Team
1994 (Senior)
Leonard Alexander earned a letter as a senior linebacker for Nebraska’s 1994 national championship team in 1994, backing up starters Phil Ellis and Doug Colman at the Mike position. The 6-1, 235-pounder from Detroit, Mich., recorded eight tackles while competing in seven regular-season games for the unbeaten Big Red. He ended his Husker career with nine tackles.
1993 (Junior)
Alexander played in four games at Mike linebacker, recording his first career tackle in a season-opening win over North Texas. He helped Nebraska to an undefeated regular season, an appearance in the Federal Express Orange Bowl national championship game against Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward and Florida State and the 1993 Big Eight title.
1992 (Sophomore)
Alexander saw varsity action for the first time, but did not record a tackle. Nebraska won the Big Eight title.
1991 (Redshirt)
A walk-on athlete, Alexander redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.
1990 (Freshman)
Alexander played linebacker for Nebraska’s JV football team, recording nine tackles (six solos) to help the Huskers to a 4-1 record.
Lutheran East High School
Alexander played fullback and linebacker for Lutheran East High School in Detroit. He lettered three times in football and track.
Personal
The son of Wilma Harrison and Lee Alexander, Leonard was born July 1, 1971. A history major, Alexander graduated from Nebraska in May of 1995. His cousin, Ken Alexander, was a senior football player on Florida State’s national championship team in 1993.
