Member of 1994 Nebraska National Championship Team
1994 (Senior)
John Martin earned a varsity letter as a backup outside linebacker for Nebraska’s 1994 national championship team. The Huskers defeated Miami 24-17 in the Federal Express Orange Bowl to claim the school’s first national title since 1971. The Big Red went undefeated and captured its third consecutive Big Eight championship.
1993 (Junior)
Martin served as a backup outside linebacker for the Huskers, who won the Big Eight title with an unbeaten regular season before taking on Florida State in the Federal Express Orange Bowl.
1992 (Sophomore)
Martin was a reserve at outside linebacker for the Big Red.
1991 (Redshirt)
In his second season at Nebraska, Martin redshirted.
1990 (Freshman)
A walk-on to the Husker program, Martin was a member of Nebraska’s 4-1 JV team in 1990.
Bishop Neumann High School
Martin earned all-state honors as a junior and senior for Coach Tim Turman at Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo, Neb. Martin ranked first or second on the team in tackles in each of his final two seasons. He was Neumann’s career leader in tackles and ranked 10th in career rushing yards. He also lettered once in basketball and four times in track.

The son of Patrick and Beverly Martin, John majored in history at Nebraska.
