Two-Time Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight Honor Roll (1993, 1994)
1994 (Senior)
A three-time letterwinner for the Huskers, Jason Pesterfield played in every regular-season game and the Federal Express Orange Bowl national championship game victory over Miami as a senior defensive tackle. Pesterfield backed up Terry Connealy up front in a dominant Nebraska defensive line rotation. He made his only career start in a win over Missouri. Pesterfield recorded 15 total tackles on the season, including nine solo stops. He had five tackles for 33 yards lost with three sacks for 26 yards. He added nine quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
1993 (Junior)
Pesterfield appeared in five regular-season games as a backup to Kevin Ramaekers and David Noonan at defensive tackle. Pesterfield did not record a tackle. He helped the Huskers to an undefeated regular season and a Big Eight title to earn an appearance in the Federal Express Orange Bowl national championship game against Florida State. He did not play against the Seminoles.
1992 (Sophomore)
Pesterfield earned a scholarship prior to the season. He played in four games to earn his first varsity letter as a backup to Bruce Moore and Kevin Ramaekers at right tackle. Pesterfield notched three tackles, including one solo on the season. He helped the Big Red to the Big Eight championship.
1991 (Redshirt)
Pesterfield redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.
1990 (Freshman)
A walk-on to the Husker program, Pesterfield played defensive tackle for the Husker JV team and finished eighth on the team with 18 total tackles, including five solos. He recorded two tackles for five yards lost, including one three-yard sack. Pesterfield also forced one fumble and added a pass breakup.
Pauls Valley High School
An all-district athlete for Coach Tim Reynolds at Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, Pesterfield played defensive end and offensive guard. He recorded 70 solo tackles his senior year, including 16 sacks. Pesterfield was a two-year member of the school’s honor roll and the FCA Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1990. He played in the 1990 Oklahoma All-Star Game. He earned three letters each in football, basketball and track, placing second in the state shot put competition. He was also a two-time all-district basketball player in 1989 and 1990.
Personal
The son of W.C. and Linda Pesterfield, Jason celebrated his 23rd birthday when Nebraska opened the 1994 national championship season against West Virginia in the Kickoff Classic. He has a brother, Walt, and a sister, Ginger. He majored in marketing at Nebraska and was a two-time Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight Honor Roll selection in 1993 and 1994.
