Damon Schmadeke joined the Huskers as a walk in 1991 and redshirted. He played in six games a freshman in 1992, including a six-yard carry against Oklahoma State.
Schmadeke was injured during the 1993 season and went on to serve as an undergraduate assistant in 1994 and 1995. He earned a letter in 1993.
The son of Ralph and Debbie Schmadeke, Damon and his twin brother Darren (played defense and was a three-time letterwinner) were born in Ventura, Calif., on Feb. 1973. The Schmadeke's great grandfather, Adam D. Kohl, was a member of NU's 1921-22 football team and a great uncle, Lloyd Schmadeke, was a pitcher for the baseball team, lettering in 1937-39.
