1991 (Senior)
Pat Engelbert finished his career as one of the most decorated Husker football student-athletes. He capped his senior season by claiming a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship along with a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete award. He added first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades after claiming second-team honors as a junior in 1991. On the field as a senior, the middle guard finished with 69 total tackles, including 25 solo stops. He also had two sacks for losses of 15 yards. In the Federal Express Orange Bowl, Engelbert recorded seven tackles, including six solos. He received the ESPN Toyota Leadership Award and the ESPN VISA Nebraska Player-of-the-Game award at the Colorado game when he had 10 tackles with five solos.
1990 (Junior)
Engelbert was Nebraska's seventh leading tackler with 48 total stops. He was third in tackles for loss with 10 for 32 yards. In the Citrus Bowl, Engelbert had seven total tackles, including six unassisted stops, four for losses totaling 21 yards, and one quarterback sack. He recorded a career high of eight tackles twice against Oklahoma State and Colorado. Against OSU, he also had a team- and career-high six solo stops. Off the field, Engelbert claimed second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
1989 (Sophomore)
Engelbert played in all but one game his sophomore year. He finished with 17 total tackles, including three for losses totaling 19 yards. He had a season high of three tackles, four times including the Oklahoma State game, when he had two sacks for 18 yards. He was one of the Huskers' top pass rushers, as he tied for second on the team in quarterback hurries with 10, just two behind the leader, defensive tackle Kenny Walker. Engelbert also had two pass breakups, and an interception caused, to go along with an interception in the Huskers' 48-0 win at Minnesota. Engelbert received CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors as well as honorable-mention Academic All-Big Eight accolades.
1988 (Redshirt Freshman)
Engelbert redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.
1987 (Freshman)
Engelbert started at middle guard for the freshman team and was the squad's second leading tackler with 25 total stops. Seventeen of those were solo tackles, and he led the team in both tackles for loss (five for 26 yards) and sacks (three for 23 yards).
Before Nebraska (Columbus Scotus HS)
Engelbert was a two-year, Class B all-state selection. He was also an all-class, all-state choice as a senior in 1986 and was team captain and MVP. At that time, Engelbert had the highest career offensive line rating in the school's history. He also handled the Shamrock's place-kicking chores and averaged 15 points per game on the basketball team.
Personal
Pat is the son of Germain and Kathleen Engelbert and was born on Oct. 19, 1968. He was a civil engineer major at Nebraska.
