Phillips 66 Big Eight Academic Honor Roll (1992)

1992 (Senior)
Jamie Liewer (pronounced LEE-ver) started Nebraska’s first three games alongside John Parrella at defensive tackle in 1992. Liewer produced five tackles, including a two-yard TFL, along with a pass breakup early in the season before breaking his right fibula early in the game against Washington (Sept. 19). He underwent surgery the next day and missed NU’s final eight regular-season games, as Bruce Moore took over the starting spot at defensive right tackle in Liewer’s absence. Nebraska went on to win the Big Eight title and earn a spot in the 1993 Federal Express Orange Bowl against Florida State.

A three-time letterman, Liewer totaled 33 tackles, including 12 solos, in his career. He also registered seven tackles for 26 yards lost with three sacks.

1991 (Junior)
Liewer played in all 11 regular-season games with six starts at defensive tackle, including the season opener against Utah State at the right tackle spot. He started five straight games (Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado) at the defensive left tackle position in midseason, before Kevin Ramaekers reclaimed a starting spot at defensive left tackle to close the year. Liewer finished with 25 total tackles, including five TFLs (22 yards). He also notched two sacks (18 yards) and registered seven quarterback hurries. Against Arizona State in his second start of the season, Liewer grabbed his first career interception and forced two fumbles. He then tied his career high with five tackles against Oklahoma State. He matched that total late in the year with five stops against Oklahoma State. Liewer helped the Huskers claim the Big Eight title and a trip to the 1992 Federal Express Orange Bowl, where he managed one assisted tackle against Miami.

1990 (Sophomore)
Liewer played in two regular-season games and registered three tackles, including a two-yard sack.

1989 (Redshirt)
Liewer redshirted in his second season as a Husker.

1988 (Freshman)
A scholarship recruit, Liewer started at the left defensive tackle spot for the 5-0 Husker junior varsity team. He finished with 23 tackles (20 solos), including five tackles for loss.

Atkinson West Holt High School
A four-year starter for Coach Mike McCabe, Liewer started on both offense and defense each of his last three seasons at West Holt High School in Atkinson. Liewer was an all-class, all-state selection while playing in Nebraska’s third-largest class. He was credited with 97 total tackles, including 13 sacks, while recovering three opponent fumbles in leading the Huskies to an 8-0 regular-season record. Liewer also played on West Holt’s Class C-1 state basketball championship team that featured Nebraska men’s basketball forward Bruce Chubick. Liewer also lettered in track and won the Class C discus title in 1988.
