Garrett caught two touchdown passes through Nebraska’s first three games as a junior in 1990. The first TD came with a 20-yard grab in a win over Northern Illinois, before he added a one-yard touchdown against Minnesota. He hauled in scoring strikes of 38 and 24 yards from Gerry Gdowski in Nebraska’s regular-season finale against Oklahoma, which was a 42-25 victory for the Huskers. Garrett also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass in the season-opening win over Northern Illinois, while adding a 26-yard touchdown catch against Colorado. His only non-scoring reception of the season came on an 11-yard grab against Oregon State. Garrett played in all 11 regular-season games, including a start against Iowa State. He added one catch for one yard against Florida State in the 1990 Fiesta Bowl. He also had a 12-yard kickoff return against the Seminoles. He missed all of spring practice with a shoulder injury that required surgery in April.
1988 (Redshirt Freshman)
Garrett played in 11 of Nebraska’s 12 regular-season contests, missing only the game against UCLA. He earned a letter as NU’s No. 3 tight end behind All-Big Eight performer Todd Millikan and Monte Kratzenstein. Garrett was credited with one assisted tackle on special teams, but he did not have a reception on the year. He suffered a dislocated shoulder in the 1988 spring game. Garrett helped the Huskers capture the 1988 Big Eight title on their way to the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami.
1987 (Freshman)
Garrett played two games with Husker freshman team, hauling in two receptions for 21 yards before suffering a severe ankle sprain that kept him out the rest of the year.
