Second-Team All-Big Eight (Coaches, 1991)
1991 (Senior)
Brian Boerboom started every game at right tackle for the second straight year for Nebraska as a senior in 1991. The 6-7, 285-pounder helped the Huskers claim a share of the Big Eight title and earn a spot in the 1992 Orange Bowl against Miami. The first-team All-Big Eight performer paved the way for a Nebraska offense that claimed the NCAA rushing title by averaging 353.2 yards per game, while also ranking third nationally in both total offense (506.5 ypg) and scoring (41.3 ppg).
A three-year letterman, Boerboom played in 32 regular-season games, including 22 consecutive starts at right tackle to close his career. He also started in the 1992 Orange Bowl and the 1991 Citrus Bowl for the Big Red, while also playing in the 1990 Fiesta Bowl. He helped the Huskers to NCAA rushing titles in both 1989 and 1991. Boerboom spent the 1992 season on the practice squad for the Cincinnati Bengals. He also played for the Connecticut Coyotes in the Arena Football League. He coached at both the high school and college levels, including stints at Southeast Missouri State, Stetson and Greenville College.
1990 (Junior)
Boerboom started every game at right tackle for a Nebraska offensive line that led the Big Eight in rushing (340.0 ypg), total offense (444.4 ypg) and scoring (37.5 ppg). The Big Red also ranked second nationally in rushing offense and sixth in scoring. Boerboom helped the Huskers to a spot in the 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl against Georgia Tech.
1989 (Sophomore)
Boerboom earned his first varsity letter as a reserve at left tackle behind Tom Punt and Terry Eyman in 1989. Boerboom saw action in 10 of NU’s 11 regular-season games and played in the 1990 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. He helped the Huskers claim their sixth NCAA rushing title of the 1980s by averaging 375.3 yards per game on the ground.
1988 (Redshirt)
Boerboom redshirted in his second season at Nebraska for the Big Eight champion Huskers.
1987 (Freshman)
Boerboom started at right tackle for Coach Shane Thorell’s Husker junior varsity team.
Doherty High School
A high school All-American by both Bally and Scholastic Coach, Boerboom was named the offensive player of the year in the Colorado Springs area – an unusual honor for a lineman. He was a three-year starter and two-time all-league and all-area offensive guard for Coach Harold Hamilton at Doherty High School. Boerboom helped lead Doherty to a 10-2 record and the state quarterfinals as a senior in 1986. One of his high school teammates was defensive back Tahaun Lewis, who started at cornerback for the Big Red in 1989 and 1990 before being selected by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1991 NFL Draft.
