1990 (Junior)
Nebraska's No. 3 free safety behind a pair of returning starters, Tyron Byrd and Steve Carmer. Thomas saw action in six games and finished the season with two pass break-ups and an interception. Helped the Huskers to a 9–3 record and an appearance in the Citrus Bowl while contributing to a Nebraska defense that ranked 7th nationally in both total defense and scoring defense.

1989 (Sophomore)
Thomas lettered as a reserve free safety, seeing action in seven games, including the Sunkist Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. He finished the season with three tackles, all unassisted, while helping Nebraska to a 10–2 record. Thomas was a part of a Blackshirt defense that ranked 8th nationally in total defense during the season.

1988 (Redshirt)
Thomas redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.

1987 (Freshman)
Thomas sat out this season under NCAA regulations. 

Houston Madison High School
He began his high school career playing both quarterback and safety for Coach Bill Matischak. Before suffering a hand injury, he appeared in four games at quarterback, passing for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Following the injury, he made a full-time transition to the defense. He excelled at safety earning him all-district honors. 

Personal 
The son of William and Linda Thomas, Will was born in Houston Texas. He was a criminal justice major. Will is the younger brother of Broderick Thomas, the three-time All-Big Eight, two-time All-American outside linebacker and a 1989 first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
