1990 (Senior)
A three-year letterman, Steve Engstrom played in all 11 regular-season games and the 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl against Georgia Tech as a senior for the Huskers. He played primarily as the alternate at left tackle on the Big Red offensive line behind All-Big Eight tackle Tom Punt. Engstrom earned a start at Missouri when Punt was out with the flu. Engstrom helped the Cornhuskers rank second nationally in rushing offense (340.0 ypg) and sixth in scoring offense (37.5 ppg), while also leading the Big Eight in total offense (444.4 ypg).

In his Husker career, Engstrom played in 24 regular-season games and made two starts.

1989 (Junior)
Nebraska’s alternate at right tackle behind All-American Doug Glaser for the second straight season, Engstrom played in the Big Red’s first seven games on the offensive line as a junior before being forced to the sideline for the last four regular-season contests with stress fractures. He returned to play in the 1990 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. He made his first career start in place of an injured Glaser (broken toe) at Minnesota. Engstrom made one of Nebraska’s most memorable blocks of the season against the Gophers, flipping defensive tackle Bob Coughlin upside down on a Husker reverse. Engstrom helped the Huskers claim the NCAA rushing title by averaging 375.3 yards per game, while ranking second nationally in scoring offense (44.7 ppg) and third in total offense (513.3 ypg).

1988 (Sophomore)
Engstrom earned his first varsity letter as an alternate at right tackle behind Glaser. Engstrom played in six of NU’s first eight games on an O-line the helped the Huskers win the NCAA rushing title (382.3 ypg), while ranking sixth in scoring offense (39.5 ppg) and seventh in total offense (477.9 ypg). He also helped the Big Red to the Big Eight championship and a trip to the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami.

1987 (Redshirt)
Engstrom redshirted while making the move from defensive tackle to offensive tackle for the Cornhuskers.

1986 (Freshman)
A walk-on from Lincoln, Engstrom was a reserve defensive tackle on the 4-1 Husker freshman team. He recorded nine tackles, including one for a two-yard loss. He also broke up one pass.

Lincoln Pius X High School
An all-state and all-city tackle on both sides of the ball for Coach Tim Aylward at Lincoln Pius X, Engstrom played in the 1986 Nebraska Shrine Bowl. A three-year football letterman for the Thunderbolts, he also lettered in track and field at Pius.

Personal
The son of Thomas and Ranette Engstrom, Steve was born in Lincoln and has two younger sisters. He majored in criminal justice at Nebraska.
