1985 (Junior)
After his junior season, Welter had established himself as one of the top linemen around. He helped lead Nebraska to its fourth NCAA rushing title in the last six years at 374.3 yard per game.

1984 (Sophomore)
Welter emerged from a close battle in the spring to nail down the No.1 spot at right tackle just before fall camp started but did not letter in 1984. Improved size and strength helped him move up the depth chart. In his first three years, Welter added 20 pounds to frame, increased his bench press 115 pounds and his hip sled lift 200 pounds. He also lowered his 40 time from 5.65 to 5.26.

1983 (Redshirt)
Welter redshirted his second year.

1982 (Freshman)
Welter played on the freshman team and alternated with teammate Brad Johnson at right tackle. They ended the season with a 5-0 record.

Before Nebraska (Yankton HS)
In high school, Welter was all-state as an offensive and defensive tackle. He also lettered twice each in both wrestling and track.
