1986 (Senior)

His senior year, Klein went 10-13 in field goals and 51-52 in extra-point kicks. Overall, he scored 81 points for the Huskers. He broke NU record for field goals with 27.

1985 (Junior)

After twice losing his starting job early in the 1985 season, Klein came back to have a record setting year. He kicked Nebraska-record 13 field goals, made all of his 38 extra-point kicks, and led the Huskers in scoring with 77 points. Klein's best game was against Missouri on Oct. 9. He was the first collegian ever to go seven-for-seven kicking field goals (four other had gone six-for-six). His seven field goals tied the NCAA record, and his five three-pointers in the first half broke the NCAA record of four in a half, held by four others. He added the PAT after the Nebraska's only touchdown in the game to give him a Big Eight-record 22 points by kicking. The same season he also broke the Nebraska record with nine-straight field goals made, with six from at least 40 yards out. Klein earned All-Big Eight honors from the associated press in the 1985 season.

1984 (Sophomore)

Klein was the Husker's fourth leading scorer in 1984. He connected on 26 of 28 extra-point kicks and made four of eight field goal attempts for 36 points. Three of his four misses were from 48 or 49 yards out. Klein's longest successful field-goal attempt was a 38-yarder against Colorado. In the Sugar Bowl victory over Louisiana State, he was four-of-four on PAT kicks tying the bowl-game record.

1983 (Redshirt)
Klein sat out as a redshirt his second year.

1982 (Freshman)

Dale walked on to the Husker football team and led the freshman team in scoring that fall. He hit all 20 of his PAT's and six of eight field goals for 38 points.
