1986 (Senior)
Kaelin saw the most playing time of his Nebraska career during his senior season, appearing in nine games. He rushed 68 times for 380 yards and two touchdowns. He helped lead the Huskers to the 1987 Sugar Bowl, where Nebraska defeated LSU Tigers football, 30-15. The Huskers finished the season ranked second nationally in rushing offense, averaging 305.5 rushing yards per game, and third in scoring with 37.8 points per contest.

1985 (Junior)
Serving as the alternate fullback behind Tom Rathman, Kaelin appeared in all 11 regular-season games. He carried the ball 17 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. More than half of his rushing yards came on a 72-yard run against Kansas. His touchdowns came on a three-yard run against Oregon and a 14-yard run versus New Mexico. Nebraska finished 9-3 and earned a berth in the 1986 Fiesta Bowl against Michigan, averaging 472.5 total yards and 36.2 points per game.

1984 (Sophomore)
Kaelin earned his first varsity letter as a sophomore, appearing in 9 games. He rushed six times for 20 yards. Nebraska finished 10-2 and defeated LSU, 28-10, in the 1985 Sugar Bowl. The Huskers averaged 427.5 total yards and 32.6 points per game.

1983 (Redshirt)
Kaelin redshirted during his second season at Nebraska.

1982 (Freshman)
As a walk-on, Kaelin carried the ball 13 times for 44 yards on Nebraska's undefeated 5-0 freshman team.

Ansley High School
Kaelin attended Ansley High School, where he was a three-time all-state selection. He played I-back, defensive back, and linebacker under Coach Dan Moore. He also earned three letters in track, two in basketball and one in wrestling.

Personal
Kaelin majored in recreation management at Nebraska. He is the son of Karl Kaelin and Doris Kaelin and was born in November 1963 in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
