1986 (Senior)
Thayer saw action in four games as a senior, recording two unassisted tackles. Nebraska finished the year with the second best defense in the Big-Eight only allowing 13.8 points per game just behind Oklahoma.
1985 (Junior)
Thayer lettered as a reserve when he played behind Siebler and Chris Carr. He appeared in five games, recording three total tackles, two of them being unassisted. Thayer helped the Huskers to a 9-3 record and a 1986 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl appearance against Michigan.
1984 (Sophomore)
Dan did not record any stats and was a nonletter varsity reserve during the 1984 season. Nebraska finished with a 10-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win against LSU (28-10).
1983 (Redshirt)
Thayer redshirted his second season at Nebraska.
1982 (Freshman)
Thayer was the starting safety on the Huskers 5-0 freshman team. Thayer recorded six total tackles, three of those being unassisted. Dan also played special teams for the undefeated Huskers recording a blocked field goal.
Grand Island High School
Dan played halfback and cornerback for Coach Ken Fischer, he earned all-conference honors, and was a prep teammate of former Husker fullback Tom Rathman.
Personal
Dan was a finance major, he is the son of Ernie and Janice Thayer, born in Grand Island Nebraska.
