1978 (Senior)
One of the finest defensive ends ever to play at Nebraska, George Andrews earned first-team All-America and first-team All-Big Eight honors in 1978. Also an outstanding student, Andrews played his senior season as a graduate student and earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. He was also a two-time academic All-Big Eight selection.
Andrews captured ABC Chevrolet Defensive Player-of-the-Game accolades against Alabama. He was also a first-team All-American Strength Squad pick and played in the Hula and Japan College All-Star games. He won the 1978 Optimist Trophy for Outstanding Defensive Lineman.
Andrews led the Blackshirts line with a total of 73 tackles, 42 unassisted and 31 assisted as a senior. A three-year starter for the Huskers, Andrews was the 1978 team captain on defense. In the 23-0 shutout of IowaState in Ames, Andrews and the Blackshirts held the Cyclones' all-time leading rusher Dexter Green to just 46 yards on 20 carries. In a stunning 17-14 upset of Oklahoma, Andrews and the defense turned in a big performance by forcing nine fumbles, recovering six of them.
1977 (Junior)
Andrews ranked second on the team in total tackles with 84, including 38 unassisted. He led the team in tackles for loss with eight (21 yards lost). In Tom Osborne’s 40th coaching win, Andrews and the Blackshirts came up big against Indiana, as the Husker defense stopped a Hoosier fourth-down gamble to preserve a 17-13 win. For his performance against Indiana, Andrews was named the Nebraska defensive player-of-the-week. The following week, the defense held a potent KansasState passing attack to only 96 yards and 62 yards on the ground in a 26-9 Husker victory.
Andrews enjoyed a monster bowl game by racking up 19 tackles against North Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.
1976 (Sophomore)
Andrews was a part-time starter and finished the season with 49 tackles, including six tackles for 36 yards lost. He also recovered a pair of fumbles and had two pass breakups.

Andrews redshirted.
1974 (Freshman)
In his first season in Lincoln, Andrews was a star with the 1974 freshman team.
Before Nebraska (OmahaBurkeHigh School)
Andrews was a high school star at Omaha Burke for Coach Larry Jacobson. He was inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2002.
