Senior (1977)

At the time Tom Osborne called Davis, “the best center Nebraska has ever had”. As a senior Davis earned First-Team All-America honors from the Football Writers, Second-Team honors from Football News and UPI, and Honorable Mention All-America from AP. Davis as also a First-Team All-Big 8 selection from both UPI and the AP.


On the season the Huskers rushed for 294.5 yards per game and put up 411.3 total yards per game. Davis and the rest of the line cleared the way for Second-Team All-American I.M. Hipp to rush for 1352 yards on the season. Behind the powerful line Hipp averaged 6.3 yards per carry and scored 10 touchdowns. Davis helped the Husker offense score 32 total touchdowns on the ground in 1977. The Huskers ended up ranking No. 2 in the Big 8 in total offense (408.4 yards per game), rushing offense (312.7 yards per game), and scoring offense (27.3 yards per game), the No. 1 team in each of those categories was Oklahoma.

 

Junior (1976)
Nebraska’s starting center in 1976, earned Honorable Mention All-Big 8 honors in 1976. Davis helped Nebraska average a very balanced 406.9 yards per game in 1976 (215.5 rushing and 191.4 passing). Protected First-Team All-American quarterback Vince Ferragamo, with Davis and the rest of the offensive line Ferragamo was able to throw for 2254 yards and 22 touchdowns. Davis led a line that paved the way for Rick Bern to rush for a team season high 211 yards against Hawaii, on the day the team rushed for a season high 449 yards.

 

Sophomore (1975)
Backed up All-American Rik Bonness in 1975 and started the LSU and Indiana games when Bonness was injured.
