At Nebraska
One of the best lineman to ever play at Nebraska. All-America and All-Big 8 First-Team in both 1972 and ’73. Co-captain of the ’73 team, coaches compared him to all-time Husker greats Bob Brown and Bob Newton. White was a three-year starter and blocked for Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers. In the 1973 Orange Bowl against Notre Dame, White made room for Rodgers to score three touchdowns on the ground as Nebraska became the first team to win three straight Orange Bowls, the final score against Notre Dame was 40-6.
In White’s junior year the Huskers averaged 541.4 yards per game and scored 41.8 points per game. In his senior year White paved the way fifth rated Big 8 Conference back Tony Davis, Davis ran for 1,008 yards. White also blocked for quarterback Dave Humm who was second in the conference in passing yards with 1,526 yards and third in the conference in total yards with 1,513 yards.
As a sophomore White gained Sophomore All-America honors and Honorable Mention All-Big 8. Coaches were recruiting White when they found Husker legend Rich Glover and wound up with two two-time All-Americans.
White was a starter for the 1971 National Championship team.
Before Nebraska (East Orange High (N.J.))
All-State in football for Coach Tom Dean and was also All-State in baseball at East Orange High, also lettered three times in basketball.
